Another joins the diving world

Another joins the ranks of scuba diving. Gary Wheeler successfully passes the open water dives and continues his passion for the ocean. A man who has been free diving every chance he gets now will be handing in his snorkel for regs and a tank. We had two fantastic days of diving. Who can complain about seeing giant turtles, reef sharks, rays, and an abundance of fish. To say the diving was great does not do it justice. A bit of a surge and the visibility was not our biggest problem. Coming back to the mainland was the problem. Who wants to leave an area like masthead.

congrats to Gary

Gary is looking forward to doing some more dives and eventually get his advanced sorted out.

Once again, welcome to the diving community Gary.

Pool work

A successful weekend for Gary Wheeler. Completed the classroom session last week and blew the final exam out of the water. Then it was off to Quoin and the pool work, which we saw 4 different pods of dolphins on the way over. By Sunday afternoon I was shaking his hand and congratulating him on the great work. He took to neutral buoyancy like he has been diving for a long time. Now off to the Ocean on wednesday and thursday to do the open water and see some Mantas, which love to hang around one of the dive sites we are off to on Thursday.

Open water course changes

Living in Gladstone and teaching shift workers has brought time problems. Well now Oceanview Diving is moving forward with the times. All classroom sessions will now be done at your pace in your own home. It is all done online. You can work as fast or as slow as you would like. All knowledge reviews and final test is also done online. The only days you have to set aside is confined and open water days. The online theory is included in the price of the course. So there is nothing holding you back now to become an Open Water Scuba Diver. Don't wait, call (0404 60 7529) or email me as classes are filling up quite quickly.

Winter is coming and 2 new links

Winter time is coming and that means 2 things here in the Gladstone area.

1. The water is getting colder (yes, it does get a cold 19 degrees)

2. The winds are changing directions which means the visibility is getting better.

There has been a lot of interest in people in the Gladstone area wanting to learn to dive. I have found some more dive sites, thanks to Dive Oz who has a large list of dive sites and wrecks for the Central Queensland area, that I will be heading out and investigating. If you are not a member or have not been to the Dive Oz website then I highly recommend it.

I have also added 2 new links. One is Dive Oz and the second is Cayman University Divers. The owner Brad has more experience in diving Grand Cayman then anyone else on the Island. His knowledge of all the dive sites is amazing. If you are planning a trip to the Caymans and do not want to be treated as a sheep in large groups then Brad is the man you want to book your dive holiday with. He also knows the Island pretty well and can tell you the sites to see.

If you are interested in learning to dive do not hesitate as my calender is filling up quite quickly. Either send me an email to oceanviewdiving or call me at 0404-60 7529. Don't miss out on the beauty that is the underwater world of Australia, and the rest of the world for that matter.

Congratulations to the new open water diver

Want to congratulate Mike Hager on passing the open water scuba course. Not bad for a man that runs 4 miles a day, has run marathons and is a young 74 years old. Now for the weather to change and do some diving.

Me and Mike.

Course location found

I found my dive location. I have spoken to the owner of the resort on Quoin Island, which is not used as a resort, and said he would have us ferried over to the Island and I have private use of his 7ft pool and the pier to do the diving off. The big plus is the owner has created a Turtle rehabilitation retreat dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of Central Queensland's ill and injured marine turtles, they are the only dedicated facility in the Gladstone region. Contact them for any turtle concerns 0408 431 304.

Finally

My ABN number has finally been given to me. I can now start teaching. Just have to wait for the contract with the waterboard and my first student.
